Sugar acids and derivatives are compounds containing a saccharide unit which bears a carboxylic acid group. 3-Phosphoglyceric acid is possibly soluble (in water) and an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 3-Phosphoglyceric acid exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans.
