DescriptionResin, also known as anaflex or methylene-n,n'-bis(hydroxymethyl)urea polymer, is a member of the class of compounds known as ureas. Ureas are compounds containing two amine groups joined by a carbonyl (C=O) functional group. Resin can be found in a number of food items such as common thyme, papaya, turmeric, and dandelion, which makes resin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. In polymer chemistry and materials science, resin is a "solid or highly viscous substance" of plant or synthetic origin that is typically convertible into polymers. They are often mixtures of organic compounds, principally terpenes. Many plants, particularly woody plants, produce resin in response to injury. The resin acts as a bandage protecting the plant from invading insects and pathogens .
